New Technology Development Seminar Launched by the Product Development Institute

ANCASTER, ONTARIO, CANADA - December 17, 2002 -The Product Development Institute (PDI), today announced a new seminar for 2003. Technology Developments, Platforms & Fundamental Research Breakthroughs: Managing for Profitable Results.

Based on over 20 years of best practice research in NPD, Dr. Robert G. Cooper has designed this event to provide the latest breakthrough approaches to the development of product platforms and new technology breakthroughs.

The seminar's interactive approach will give participants the opportunity to learn about the importance of investing in these higher risk projects - from which organizations tend to shy away. But it is these types of fundamental technologies that will provide organizations with new capabilities, and lead to winning new products. "The Technology Development seminar will certainly provide insights for the development of core capabilities which will lay the foundation for future development of new product winners", said Dr. Cooper. "Such technologies can be key in gaining long-term competitive advantage".

And when organizations do pursue such projects, they often put them through a traditional new product process without realizing that such projects are different, and require a different approach altogether. The seminar will examine the importance of technology development processes to integrate both scientific and business aspects, without undermining the creativity required in the early stage of product development.

Dr. Cooper will also continue to deliver the highly acclaimed "Winning at New Products" seminar through 2003.

The schedule for PDI's Conferaction™ Seminars for spring and summer 2003 is as follows:

February 4 - 5: Winning at New Products, Orlando, Florida
March 11 - 12: Successfully Implementing the Stage-Gate® Process: The Critical Challenge, Orlando, Florida
