ANCASTER, ONTARIO, CANADA - May 18, 2011.  In a recent interview, Dr. Robert G. Cooper, the world’s top innovation management scholar, gave advice on how companies should approach product innovation in the current economic environment.

The focus should not be upon trimming innovation budgets”, Cooper explained, “instead, companies need to concentrate their efforts on removing waste from their product innovation process and on picking the best development projects to invest in - on getting more bang for their R&D buck”.

Dr. Cooper, together with his colleague Dr. Scott J. Edgett, has developed an approach that companies can take to successfully remove waste from product innovation processes.  By introducing the seven principles of lean, rapid and profitable new product development, companies can innovate more efficiently and effectively.

In his book on this topic, Lean, Rapid and Profitable New Product Development, Dr. Cooper highlights how top performing companies innovate more productively, and reach market faster with lower costs and higher returns.  Cooper outlines the seven key principles that lead to higher productivity in new product development. The book also investigates and presents best practices, showing companies how they can identify and remove waste and achieve a streamlined and efficient new product development process.
